About this sector
The automotive retail, service and repair sector includes vehicle retailing largely conducted through dealer networks, vehicle maintenance through regular servicing, repair of damaged vehicles, supply of aftermarket equipment, vehicle recycling and disposal and motorsport. It also includes the areas of heavy vehicles, outdoor power equipment, farm machinery, bicycles and part of recreational boating.
MSA’s role in this sector
As the national Industry Skills Council for the automotive retail, service and repair sector, MSA’s role to ensure that the qualifications contained in the Automotive Retail Service and Repair Training Package meet the workforce development and skills needs of the stakeholders. MSA carries out this role through industry consultation, surveys and collating data and research from a variety of sources.
Currently there are 32 qualifications from Certificate I to Diploma level covering occupations including automotive sales, vehicle servicing, mechanical and electrical technology, bicycle repair and maintenance, smash repairs and vehicle recycling and parts interpreting.
