About this sector
The Australian furnishing manufacturing industry has an estimated value of around $13.4 billion, making it a significant contributor to the Australian economy. Furniture making represents more than 50% of furnishing sector and remains a strong employer of qualified tradespeople. It is estimated that around 70,000 people are employed in this industry, mostly in small businesses.

MSA’s role in this sector
MSA has responsibility for the development, implementation and continuous improvement of furnishing qualifications. They support the development of comprehensive skills for furnishing personnel including trades careers such as cabinet makers, glaziers, piano makers. In 2009, new qualifications to meet the needs of the kitchen and bathroom manufacture and design sector were added to the Training Package.
