Getting competitive in manufacturing
Australia’s manufacturing industry is taking up the competitive challenges of the global marketplace with the implementation of the Competitive Manufacturing qualifications.

These nationally endorsed qualifications are relevant across the whole of manufacturing and cover manufacturing practice, or the ‘art and science’ of lean manufacturing processes.

The qualifications are available at Certificates II, III and IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma and are designed for existing workers. The qualifications were developed to incorporate the best international manufacturing practice into vocational education and training.

As well as covering ‘manufacturing practice’, the qualifications include system management skills used at all levels in manufacturing, culminating in the skills needed by people such as manufacturing team leaders and operations managers.

The Competitive Manufacturing qualifications are located in the Manufacturing Training Package

New Competitive Manufacturing Vocational Graduate Qualifications
The need for development of Vocational Graduate qualifications in Competitive Manufacturing was identified by MSA in 2007 in response to requests for more in depth training and professional development for individuals who already had some skills or training in Competitive Manufacturing practices.

The MSA decision to provide professional development as the target approach for the graduate qualifications meant that it was also appropriate to shift the skill level of the new units of competency further towards the leading edge of competitive manufacturing practice.

Development work was concluded in March 2009 and the new qualifications are expected to be endorsed in June 2009. Click here for more information on this project
